Off into the Sunset at the Zoo

"HOLD my beer"

So I can pet this alligator.

That's just normal conversation at the Central Florida Zoo & Bontanical Garden's happy hour event, Sunset at the Zoo.

Sanford may be growing and bustling with new businesses, bars, and restaurants, but we are also lucky to be able to "get back to nature" pretty easily with the help of the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens and their wild happy hour, Sunset at the Zoo.

This 21+ event makes a great date night. Beer, wine, and Sonny's BBQ are available for purchase and zoo animals are available to pet!

We recently met up with another couple to enjoy a beautiful evening with an otter, a few gators, exotic birds, and venomous animals that slither and look great behind a wall of safety glass.

It is great to see the zookeepers passionate and dedicated about the work they do as well. They are so gentle and kind to the animals, and are extremely knowledgeable about each one. For example, the "hedgehog" in the picture above is not a hedgehog. Although similar in appearance, it's a Tenrec, native to Madagascar.

It was a bit chilly the evening we attended and therefore some of the monkeys had already been put to bed for the evening. Animal safety and protection come first at the zoo.

But you also never know who you'll run into. We were very excited to randomly meet the ladies behind the Sanford chapter of Girls Pint Out. Girls Pint Out is a national craft beer organization for women whose mission is to build a community of women who love craft beer and who are an active, contributing part of the greater craft beer community. We look forward to participating in their events in the future!

Enjoying a beverage, meeting new animals, meeting new people, getting back to nature. Success!

Sunset at the Zoo is every third Thursday March through October and tickets for entry are just $5 - you can't beat that.
